This visualization, provided by National Renewable Energy Laboratories (NREL), shows the projected expansion of renewable technologies in the U.S. over time. This map tracks solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, bio-power, concentrated solar power (CSP) and nuclear/fossil fuels to show how renewable technologies compare to their higher-polluting counterparts from today until the year 2050.
The color of the circles represents the various technologies installed and circle size represents the nameplate capacity of the generation technology installed.

A really awesome map of expected renewable energy growth, by technology, up until 2050.

The map gets evermore colorfully as it approaches the year 2050. Certainly an encouraging sign.
