The Utility Variable-Generation Integration Group (UVIG) has developed a scholarship program for college students enrolled in programs related to wind or solar energy, the maintenance of wind turbines or solar power plants, and power engineering. According to UVIG, each year the group will award up to five scholarships worth either $1,000 or $2,000 to worthy students. In this initiative, UVIG seeks to accomplish their goal of facilitating students access to education related to the field in which UVIG operates.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be currently enrolled in or accepted for enrollment in an accredited trade school or college in the US or Canada. Their major must be in a field of study that leads to a career related to utility power engineering or operation and maintenance of utility-scale wind or solar generation equipment. With this initiative, UVIG continues to take steps towards the accomplishment of their mission:
“to accelerate the development and application of good engineering and operational practices supporting the appropriate integration of wind power into the electric system”

UVIG TECHNICAL ACTIVITIES
Apart from the scholarship program, UVIG organizes other activities in order to share industry expertise and build knowledge regarding grid integration of renewables. As a member, GNARUM is actively participating in these activities. In addition, the group also organizes meetings with members and other organizations, develops research activities and publishes reports, news, and documentation related to renewables.
